Our logo serves as a gentle wink and nod to the rich tapestry of African history and culture, an homage that resonates subtly yet powerfully. Meanwhile, the name itself evokes feelings of grounding, heritage, and knowledge—values that lie at the heart of our mission. It encapsulates our unwavering belief that amidst our brilliance and individuality, an unbreakable tie to our heritage—the essence of our roots—endures.
Prominently featured in our logo is the Adinkra symbol known as NYANSAPO, embodying wisdom, ingenuity, intelligence, and patience. This symbol beautifully conveys the essence of our philosophy: "a wise person has the capacity to choose the best means to attain a goal." It's a visual representation of the principles we hold dear and aspire to share.
About Jada
Jada Young, M.A. M.S.Ed, NCC
Greetings! I'm Jada Young, the driving force behind Roots & Wisdom. My journey began at SUNY New Paltz, where in 2013, I proudly earned a Bachelor's degree in Black Studies. Following that, I ventured to SUNY Albany, achieving a Master of Arts in Africana Studies. Afterward, I returned to the vibrant backdrop of New York City, immersing myself in non-profit and educational spheres where I honed my love of education into a career of meaning. My path then led back to academia, where I earned a second Master's degree in School Counseling in 2022. Prior to graduation, I was named a Minority Mental Health fellow through the National Board for Certified Counselors (2021-2022), before achieving distinction as a National Certified Counselor in 2023.
The inception of Roots & Wisdom mirrors a profound commitment—a commitment to empower individuals, schools, and institutions, steering them towards their utmost potential in the domains of education, counseling, and youth development. Drawing inspiration from the wisdom of our ancestors, my mission is to forge a nurturing space where every individual discovers their voice, conquers challenges, and embraces a more brilliant future.
